#13 Tartans Remain Undefeated with Win Over #6 Johns Hopkins

(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – The 13th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis faced sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins University during their second day of competition at the University of Mary Washington on Sunday, March 16. The Tartans won 5-2 and defeated their second straight top 10 team to move to 15-0 overall while the Blue Jays drop to 7-5. 

Inside the Results

  • The Tartans led 1-0 after victories in first and third doubles. Senior Zoe Angell and junior Anna Chow won first doubles by a 6-0 score, while junior Anika Joshi and freshman Shelly Zinchenko won third doubles 6-3.
  • It marked the fourth straight match each pair won their first and third doubles matches.
  • The Tartans won four of six singles matches, securing the final score of 5-2.
  • Zinchenko won first singles 6-4, 6-2 to give the Tartans a 2-0 lead.
  • Hopkins made it 2-2 with wins at fifth and second singles. 
  • Freshman Ancele Dolensek and junior Divya Venkatarama came from a set down to win at third singles 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, and fourth singles, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4, respectively to seal the match win.
  • Junior Manuela Van Cotthem then finished her sixth singles match with a winning score of 6-4, 1-6, 7-6. (7-5).
