Win Streak Stopped at Home for #24 Tartans

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - A second-half goal by visiting Emory University halted the 24th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team's winning streak when the Eagles won 1-0 in Pittsburgh on Sunday, October 20. The Tartans are now 9-3-1 overall and 3-1 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while the Eagles move to 9-4 and 2-2.

The Tartans put nine shots on goal for the game but Haley Pratt stopped them all including a foot save in the 15th minute off a shot by freshman Helena Spencer (Warrenton, Va. / Patriot) and a diving save in the 34th minute off a strike by sophomore Marissa McAfee (Cumming, Ga. / South Forsyth).

Senior Andrea Sipos (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) had five saves in the first half for the Tartans, a diving stop of her own in the 32nd minute and a shot she pushed over the bar in the 36th minute.

Eleven minutes into the second half, the Eagles earned a corner kick. The service was headed inside the box by Shivani Beall to the foot of Caroline Kolski near the post. Kolski then tipped the ball back three yards to Peyton Robertson who popped a shot high from close range over Sipos at the near post for the score.

The Tartans had four shots on frame after the goal by the Eagles and kept the visitors from attempting a shot but were unable to equalize.

The Tartans will next host Nazareth College on Sunday, October 27 at noon.
