(STATEBORO, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf completed play at South Georgia Invitational on Tuesday and carded a 36-hole score of 597 (306-291). The Tartans won the 19-team event, as the 36-hole, two-day event is hosted by Berry University and is being played at the Georgia Southern University Golf Course in Statesboro, Georgia which is a par 72, 5,608 -yard course.

How it Happened:

  • Freshman Cecilia Jia claimed the individual medalist as she carded a 36-hole score of even par 144. Jia opened play carding a round of one-over par 73 and then shot one-under par 71 in the closing round.
  • In a field of 105 golfers, freshman Emma Wong placed second individually, as she finished three strokes behind Jia with a 147 (74-73).
  • Senior Sriya Mupparaju carded a 152 (79-73) and placed sixth.
  • Graduate student Alexis Sudjianto finished eighth overall after shooting a 154 (80-74).
  • Sophomore Nikita Jadhav ended with a 165 (83-82).

'B' Team at Invitational:

  • The Tartans 'B' team carded a 36-hole score of 637 (324-313) and placed fourth.
  • Sophomore Samantha Wang led the Tartans 'B' Team at the invite with a 151 (78-73) and placed fifth overall.
  • Senior Kaylin Yeoh carded a 159 (79-80).
  • Junior Wenna Zhang shot 162 (85-77).
  • Sophomore Ashley Liu fired a 165 (82-83)
  • Freshman Caroline Fixter ended with a 174 (88-86).
  • Competing as an individual was senior Sense Sangkagoon, as she fired a 165 (86-79).

Notes:

  • Jia's score of 144 (-1) is tied for the sixth lowest individual 36-hole total in the program's history.
  • The individual medalist honor for Jia is the first of her collegiate career.
