Women’s Golf Receives Second NCAA Bid in Program History

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team has been selected to compete in the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships. This marks the Tartans second appearance in program history after finishing fifth at the 2018 NCAA Championships. This year's championships will be held May 11-14, at Forest Akers Golf Courses in Lansing, Michigan on the West Course. Olivet College and the Greater Lansing Sports Authority will be hosting the four-day event.

A total of 131 participants will compete at the 2021 championships. Twenty-one conferences have been granted automatic qualification and the remaining four teams were selected on an at-large basis from conferences and the independent institutions. Six individuals, not from selected teams, also were selected for the championships. Following 54 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams to compete the final day.

The Tartans will be joined at the championships with University Athletic Association (UAA) counterparts Emory University.

The Tartans currently rank fifth nationally in the latest Division III Golfstat rankings and our led by freshman Denise Pan (Houston, Texas/St. John's School). Pan is currently ranked fifth nationally as an individual with an adjusted scoring average of 76.73 through eight rounds played. Sophomore Alexis Sudjianto (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) ranks seventh nationally as an individual with an adjusted scoring average of 76.98 also through eight rounds played.

Play begins on Tuesday, May 11 and following the third round of play on Thursday, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams to compete the final day on Friday, May 14.
