#23 Tartans Rally for UAA Opening Win at Case Western Reserve

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) - The 23rd-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team opened the University Athletic Association (UAA) season with a 69-63 victory at Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, January 11. The Tartans are now 11-1 overall and 1-0 in the league while the Spartans drop to 5-6 and 0-1.

• The home team held a 19-8 lead after the first 10 minutes of play after making 46.7% of its shots compared to the Tartans shooting 25.0% (3-of-12). The Tartans also had seven turnovers in the frame.
• Carnegie Mellon turned it around in the second quarter, shooting 50.0% from the floor while the Spartans hit 26.7% of their attempts.
• Senior Catherine Or tallied seven of the team's 16 second-quarter points to finish the half with a team-best seven points.
• The Tartans trailed at the half for the third time this season, as the Spartans held a nine-point advantage following three free throws by Jordyn Call with 44 seconds to play in the half.
• Carnegie Mellon took their first lead of the game with 4:13 left in the third quarter when junior Nicole Timko scored a layup following the Tartans winning the ball back from a 10-second backcourt violation by the Spartans. 
• A three-pointer by senior Isha Nambisan on the next Tartan possession gave the Cardinal and Gray a four-point lead and closed out a 15-2 run.
• The Spartans ended the third quarter with an 8-1 run to lead by five, 49-44.
• The Tartans took their 61.5% shooting in the third frame into the fourth and shot 88.9% from the floor, including a 3-of-3 performance from long range to turn the five-point deficit into a six-point win.
• The final quarter belonged to Or, who was 4-of-5 from the floor, and 4-of-6 from long range, to score 16 points.
• The Tartans took the final lead of the game on the first of two free throw by Or with 4:12 to play.

• Or led all players with 27 points while she also led the Tartans with six rebounds and four assists.
• Nambisan finished with 11 points after making three three-pointers.
• The team finished shooting 54.2% from the floor and hit 42.1% from three.

• Mya Hartjes led four players in double figures with 15 points.
• Evie Miller had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
• The team finished shooting 40.4% for the game.
