Tartans Fall in Late Innings to Case Western Reserve
(NEW CASTLE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University softball team hosted Case Western Reserve University on Friday, May 8 for each team's last University Athletic Association (UAA) series of the season. The Spartans picked up runs in the sixth and seventh innings to win 8-4 and push the Tartans record to 20-16 overall and 6-10 in the UAA.
Inside the Box Score
- The Tartans posted two runs in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore Reagan Diamond doubled to center field to score freshman Riya Sharda who walked and stole second. Junior Lindsey Murai then doubled to left field after hitting the ball off the fence to plate Diamond.
- Case Western Reserve tied it at 2-2 with a two-run double by Ashley Miller with two outs.
- Sophia Becker then hit a two-run home run in the top of the third inning to give the Spartans a 4-2 lead.
- Murai collected another RBI in the bottom of the third with a single.
- The Tartans tied the game at 4-all when freshman Maddie Lee drew a throw down to second by the catcher that got through the outfield to allow Lee to race home in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- The Spartans put the winning run across the board in the sixth with a sacrifice fly.
- Another three runs came across the plate in the top of the seventh for the Spartans to end the game at 8-4.
- Sophomore Gabriella Triano pitched 6.1 innings for the Tartans.

The Tartans will host Case Western Reserve for a doubleheader on Saturday, May 9 to close the year. The first game is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
