Diamond Hits Two Homers in 7-4 Loss to Brandeis

(NEW CASTLE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University softball team faced Brandeis University on Friday, April 10. The Judges came out on top, 7-4. This puts the Tartans at 14-11 overall and 2-5 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while the Judges are at 17-10 and 4-3.

Inside the Game

  • The Tartans put three runs on the board in the first inning with three straight hits, including a three-run homer to center field by sophomore Reagan Diamond.
  • The Judges brought two players home in the top of the second with a home run.
  • In the bottom of the third, Diamond again homered to center field, bringing the Tartans lead to 4-2.
  • The Judges answered with three runs in the top of the fourth with three hits to lead 5-4.
  • The Tartans had a runner on first with an 0-2 count to senior Kira Monji in the fifth inning before an 11-minute rain delay. When the teams returned to the field, Monji flied out to right field, junior Maddy Beall popped up to shortstop and Diamond grounded into a fielder's choice to end the inning.
  • Brandeis added two runs in the seventh inning but freshman Riya Sharda saved two runs from scoring with a catch at the fence resulting in a sacrifice fly.
  • Freshman Kiera Thomas pitched four innings for the Tartans and sophomore Gabriella Triano pitched three.
