(ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University softball team completed its three game series against 24th-ranked Emory University by splitting a doubleheader on Saturday, March 28. The Tartans won the first game 5-4 and lost the second 7-4 for an overall record of 13-8 and a University Athletic Association (UAA) record of 1-2. The Eagles are now 15-9 and 5-1.
Inside Game 1 Against Emory
- The game opened with a 1-1 score at the end of the first inning. Senior Kira Monji led off the game with a single and later scored when freshman Sophia Doherty reached on a fielder's choice. The Eagles scored off a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning.
- The Tartans scored four runs off five hits in the top of the second with the first coming off the bat of Monji who singled in a run with one out to plate junior Lindsey Murai who led off with a single.
- Freshman Aubrey Feldman then scored off freshman Maddie Lee's single to right field.
- Monji and Lee came around to score when junior Maddy Beall doubled to left center with two outs.
- The Eagles put two runs on the board in the fourth and one in the fifth to make it 5-4, Tartans.
- Freshman Kiera Thomas shut out the Eagles in the sixth and seventh inning by stranding a runner in each inning for her fourth win of the season and first career UAA victory.
Inside Game 2 Against Emory
- After a quiet first inning, Beall singled through the left side for an RBI in the second inning. Murai, who doubled, scored on a wild pitch, and Monji singled again to plate Beall.
- Monji's single extended her hitting streak to six games which all include two or more hits.
- The Tartans took a 4-0 lead in the third inning when Murai singled up the middle to score freshman Bella Reuss from second with two outs.
- The Eagles then scored four runs off four hits in the bottom of the third to tie the game.
- Three runs were added by the Eagles between the fourth and fifth innings while the Tartans stranded four runners on base in their final four at bats.

The Tartans will travel to the University of Chicago on Friday, April 3 for game day. The game will start at 3:00 p.m. CDT.
