Monji Records Three Hits in UAA Opener
(ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University softball team fell to 24th-ranked Emory University in the first of three games this weekend on Friday, March 27 in Atlanta, Georgia. The 8-2 loss to the Eagles puts the Tartan at a record of 12-7 and 0-1 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while Emory rises to 14-8 and 4-0.
Inside the Game against Emory
- After a quiet first inning, Emory got on the scoreboard first after a bases loaded single by Ashley Chu.
- Senior Kira Monji singled for the second time in the game in the top of the third inning with two outs and later tied the game on sophomore Reagan Diamond's single to right field.
- Emory then scored four runs off six hits in the bottom of the third to lead 5-1.
- After a scoreless fourth inning, the Tartans put another run across the plate when junior Maddy Beall walked with the bases loaded to score Monji who reached on a single.
- Emory added two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth to close the game.

The Tartans play a doubleheader against 24th-ranked Emory on Saturday, March 28 with the first game at 12:00 p.m. and the second at 2:00 p.m.
