(ERIE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University softball team played an evening doubleheader against Penn State Behrend on Saturday, March 21, splitting the action with sophomore Gianna Adams recording the first perfect game in program history to start the night. Adams led the Tartans to a 3-0 game one win before the team fell 5-3 in game two to move to 10-6 overall for the season.
Inside Game 1
- Adams started the game with three strikeouts in the first inning and later struck out the side in the fourth inning before collecting 12 strikeouts in the game.
- The Tartans had two hits through the first five innings with singles by juniors Maya Bala and Maddy Beall.
- Sophomore Gabrielle Yamoah gave the Tartans a 1-0 lead with a single through the infield to plate freshman Maddie Lee who tripled to lead off the inning.
- Sophomore Reagan Diamond later singled with two outs in the sixth inning to score Yamoah for a 2-0 lead.
- Beall recorded her second hit of the game with a triple to lead off the seventh inning and scored on a groundout to the pitcher by freshman Madison Heimann.
- Adams ended the game with a foul out, ground out, and a called third strike for the history making game for Carnegie Mellon.
Inside Game 2
- Lee scored the first run for the Tartans in the top of the first after senior Kira Monji singled.
- After the Lions tied the game in the fourth, Yamoah homered to right field to lead off the fifth and freshman Audrey Feldman scored on an error for a 2-1 lead.
- The Lions answered with two runs off four hits in the bottom of the fifth and then scored twice off two hits and an error in the bottom of the sixth for a 5-3 lead.

The Tartans will play a doubleheader against Marietta College on Sunday, March 22. The first game will start at 3:00 p.m.
