Tartans Drop Pair of Games to End the Weekend

(SALISBURY, Md.) – The Carnegie Mellon University softball team fell on Sunday, March 15 to Salisbury University and Stockton University. The 7-6 game against Salisbury followed by the 11-3 game against Stockton puts them at 9-5 for the season.

Game Against Salisbury

  • The Tartans had three straight singles in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead when freshman Riya Sharda scored on sophomore Reagan Diamond's single to center field.
  • Sharda collected an RBI single in the second inning to plate freshman Maddie Lee from second base with two outs for a 2-0 lead.
  • After Salisbury answered with one in the bottom of the second, junior Maddy Beall singled with two outs and scored when freshman Kiera Thomas doubled to right center.
  • The Tartans then scored three runs off three hits in the top of the fourth inning. First with Lee and Sharda scoring off freshman Sophia Doherty's single to left field. Senior Kira Monji later scored off Thomas' right-field single.
  • Salisbury then answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth and added a run in the bottom of the sixth.
  • After a scoreless inning by the Tartans, the Sea Gulls loaded the bases in the seventh and tied the game with a double. After the third pitching change of the inning, Salisbury took the win with a walk off single by Morgan Moxley.
  • Sharda, Diamond, Thomas, Lee, and freshman Audrey Feldman each had two hits in the game.

Game Against Stockton

  • The Tartans scored three runs off two hits in the bottom of the first with the first run coming off the bat of Beall that scored Sharda from second with no outs. Doherty followed with a single up the middle to score Monji from second and junior Lindsey Murai hit a sacrifice fly to score Beall.
  • Stockton scored eight runs off seven hits in the top of the third to lead 8-3.
  • The Ospreys added a run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth.
  • Freshman Madison Heimann led off the sixth with a single but was stranded to end the game.
  • Beall collected three hits in the game with two singles and a triple.

Up Next

The Tartans will have a double header away against Franciscan University on Wednesday, March 18. The first game will be at 3:30 p.m. and the second will be at 5:30 p.m.
