(SALISBURY, Md.) - The Carnegie Mellon University softball team dropped two contests at the Margie Knight Invitational hosted by Salisbury University on Saturday, March 14. Game one was an eight-inning 8-6 loss to Manhattanville College while game two was a 1-0 loss to SUNY New Paltz. The Tartans are now 9-3 on the season.
Inside the Game vs. Manhattanville
- The Tartans took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when freshman Aubrey Feldman singled in two runs with two outs.
- Freshman Sophia Doherty homered to right center in the bottom of the third inning to also score sophomore Reagan Diamond who doubled with one out.
- Senior Haley Pucci left the game after giving up two hits in four scoreless innings with freshman Mari Jarmoszka pitching a solid fifth inning to keep the Tartans up 4-0.
- Manhattanville strung together three straight hits to chase Jarmoszka from the game and freshman Kiera Thomas entered with a 4-1 lead and runners on first and third with one out in the top of the sixth inning. Two hits and four runs later the Valiants led 5-4.
- The Tartans tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning when junior Maddy Beall grounded out to second to score senior Kira Monji who led off the inning with a walk.
- Manhattanville was able to score three runs in the top of the eighth inning and the Tartans answered with one in the bottom of the inning when freshman Riya Sharda singled up the middle to score the runner placed on second per the international tiebreaker rule.
Inside the Game vs. New Paltz
- Sophomore Gianna Adams surrendered six hits in six inning of work, allowing the lone run to cross in the bottom of the third inning when she gave up back-to-back doubles.
- Beall had a triple and a double in the game while freshman Madison Heimann and Sharda each recorded a single.

The Tartans will play Salisbury (6-8) at 11:00 a.m. and Stockton University (6-0) at 1:00 p.m. to close the weekend.
