Adams Named UAA Rookie of the Year; Four Others Earn Honors
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Five Carnegie Mellon University softball players have been honored on the University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Association Softball Team for the 2025 season. Freshman Gianna Adams was named the UAA Rookie of the Year while she was joined by four others on the second team.
Adams is the first UAA Rookie of the Year for the program, now in its seventh season. Adams finished second in the UAA in strikeouts with 65 against league opponents and finished with a 5-5 record. Her overall win total of eight is third-best in program history and ties for the most wins by a first-year pitcher. Adams pitched 12 complete games in 15 starts and had 5.94 strikeouts per seven innings pitched, tallying 95 for the season with an ERA of 2.81. The right handed pitcher completed the third-most innings (122.0) in program history while her ERA is the sixth-best and top average for a freshman and her strikeouts also landed as the third most for the program. Adams had a career-best 12 strikeouts against Brandeis and NYU.
The other second-team honorees for the Tartans are seniors Faith Lawrence and Abbey Reese, sophomore Maddy Beall, and freshman Reagan Diamond.
Lawrence and Reese each tallied 30 hits in their final campaign while they both scored 21 runs. Lawrence led the Tartans with 27 RBIs and six home runs. The first baseman finished her career as the all-time leader in home runs with 11. Reese, who played shortstop in 34 games, had four doubles and a triple, knocked in 11 runs, walked 12 times and stole 13 bases.
Beall led the team with 19 walks and was second with 31 hits. The outfielder was second on the team in batting average, hitting .323 with 17 RBIs. Diamond led the team in batting average at .349, in hits with 37, and doubles with nine. The catcher was second in RBIs with 20 and led the team with 106 at bats. Diamond also had a nine-game hitting streak with a career-best three hits four times.
