Adams Named NFCA and UAA Pitcher of the Week
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Carnegie Mellon University softball freshman Gianna Adams garnered two awards for her weekly performance as a pitcher for the Tartans. Adams was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Pitcher of the Week and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) National Pitcher of the Week after leading the Tartans to three wins.
Adams had a 0.00 ERA with 29 strikeouts in a 3-0 week that included two victories on the road against New York University and an extra-inning road win against 20-win Geneva College. Adams started the week with a 6-1, eight-inning victory at Geneva with nine strikeouts. She closed the week with 20 strikeouts in two games at NYU, including matching a career-best 12 in the Tartans' 3-1 win to open the series. Adams struck out eight batters and scattered four hits in an 11-0, five-inning shutout against the Violets to win her eighth game of the season.
The Tartans return to the field on Friday, April 25 at 3:00 p.m. when they host 12th-ranked Washington University in St. Louis in New Castle, Pennsylvania.
