Tartans Fall in Extra Innings at Brandeis
(WALTHAM, Mass.) – The Carnegie Mellon University softball team ended its three-game series with Brandeis University on Sunday, April 13. The game went eight innings with the Judges winning 5-4, making the Tartans drop to 11-14 and 4-5 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) and the Judges jump to 7-19-1 and 3-6.
Inside the Box Score
- The Judges came out swinging with four runs in the bottom of the first, with three runs being unearned.
- Freshman Gianna Adams came in to pitch after the four runs and struck out the batter to end the inning.
- The Tartans got on the scoreboard in the top of the third with two runs. The first run came from a fielder's choice by senior Allie Rome with the bases loaded, plating junior Koko Sagae who started the inning with a bunt single.
- After that run, freshman Reagan Diamond hit a double to left field pushing junior Kira Monji to across the plate.
- With two outs in the fourth, Sagae tripled through the left side and came around to score on an error by the shortstop.
- Back-to-back doubles by senior Abbey Reese and graduate student Kiera Boucher tied the game for the Tartans in the top of the sixth inning.
- Reese started the eighth inning with a single but was erased at second on a grounder by Boucher. Boucher later stole second with two outs and advanced to third on a wild pitch but was stranded after a ground out by senior Libby Eichberger.
- The Judges scored the winning run on a single through the left side with a runner on second to end the game.

The Tartans will travel to Geneva College for a double header on Wednesday, April 16 with the first game starting 3:30 p.m.
