Tartans Set Three School Records on Final Day of UAA Championships

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field competed in the final day at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships on Sunday hosted by Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. The Tartans placed fourth with 143 points while the University of Chicago won the title with 194.5 points. On Sunday, the Tartans broke three school records along with a UAA record by sophomore Luke Freimanis.

Top Performances on the Track

  • The first school record came on the first running event of the day. The 4x100-meter relay team of junior Matthew Yu, senior Jeremy Ocloo, sophomore Devin Chang and freshman Eric de Oliveira won title with a time of 41.44, which tops the previous school record time of 41.67 set last season.
  • Sophomore Luke Freimanis then won the 110-meter hurdles topping his own school record time of 14.41 when he crossed in 14.13. Freshman Haoran Lin finished in a time of 15.09, placing seventh. His time also set a UAA record. The old record was 14.41 set in 2003.
  • The third school record time came from Chang, as he ran the 100-meter dash in 10.61 seconds and placed second. Yu placed sixth with a time of 10.84. Chang's time topped Yu's school record time of 10.66 that he set last week.
  • De Oliveira won the 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 48.05. Ocloo was fourth with a time of 48.87.
  • De Oliveira also placed third in the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 21.71.
  • Junior Philip Ma placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.2.
  • Senior Ryan Podnar completed the 5000-meter run in a time of 14:41.24 and placed second
  • The team of Ocloo, sophomore Ryan Joyce, freshman Aryan Hiray, and De Oliveira won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:14.98.

Top Performances on the Field

  • Senior Casey Potrebic finished seventh in javelin throw with a mark of 52.19 meters.
  • Freimanis's mark of 1.77 meters in high jump put him in sixth place.
  • Senior Morgan Johnson finished third in triple jump with a career-best mark of 14.18 meters. Junior Atai Tahasan finished fifth with a mark of 14.07 meters.
