Tartans in Third After First Day at UAA Championships

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team began the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships on Saturday, April 25 at Case Western Reserve University. The Tartans are in third place out of seven teams with 46.5 points after the first day of competition.

Top Performances on the Track

  • Senior Ryan Podnar placed second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:16.05. Junior Adam Kollgaard placed seventh with a time of 32:08.76.
  • Senior Kenji Tella finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:20.95. Junior Nicolo Fasanelli completed the race in a time of 9:31.33, placing sixth. Sophomore York Bourgeois finished in 9:41.31 and placed eighth.
  • The team of freshman Stefan Langridge, sophomore Jon Okorie, freshman Tanay Parikh, and junior Nathan Massie completed the 4x800 meter relay in a time of 8:02.84, placing fifth.
  • Sophomore Luke Freimanis and freshman Haoran Lin qualified for the 110-meter hurdles finals. Freimanis has the top time going into the finals with a career-best mark of 14.28 seconds.
  • Freshman Aryan Hiray, freshman Eric de Oliveira and senior Jeremy Ocloo all qualified for the 400-meter dash.
  • Junior Matthew Yu and sophomore Devin Chang qualified for the 100-meter dash.
  • Junior Philip Ma set a season-best time of 55.33 in the 400-meter hurdles to qualify for the finals.
  • De Oliveira will also run the 200-meter dash by qualifying eighth in the prelims.

Top Performances in the Field

  • Senior Morgan Johnson placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.68 meters.
  • Senior Johnathan Crawshaw picked up a third-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 15.13 meters. Senior Sam Alligood was fifth with a mark of 13.81 meters.
  • Sophomore Lucas Knappenberger tied for fifth in the pole vault after clearing 4.63 meters.
  • Senior Victor Crawshaw took fifth place in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.42 meters.
