Tartans Compete at Bucknell and Westminster

(LEWISBURG, Pa,) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team split into two meets this weekend. Half of the team traveled to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania to compete in the Bucknell Outdoor Classic on Saturday and Sunday while the other half competed in the Westminster Invite Saturday.

Top Performances at Bucknell

  • In his first 10,000-meter race since his freshman year, senior Ryan Podnar was the third Tartan to break 30 minutes in the 10k. Running a 29:54.49 currently places him 15th nationally.
  • Freshman Eric de Oliveira finished the 400-meter dash in sixth in a field of 70 competitors with a 48.56, moving him to fifth place on the CMU all-time list. Senior Jeremy Ocloo ran 49.39, crossing the line in 20th. Freshman Aryan Hiray crossed the finish line in 49.64, in 30th. Sophomore Ryan Joyce ran 50.8 finishing in 54th.
  • Sophomore Luke Freimanis competed in the long jump with a mark of 6.26 meters. He later competed in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing second in 14.42. The time was just 0.01 seconds off his personal record. He then ran a personal best time in the 100-meter dash of 11.20. 
  • In the 3,000-meter steeplechase senior Kenji Tella ran a new personal best of 9:27.16 to place him 20th out of 59 athletes.
  • Freshman Stefan Langridge ran a personal best in the 1,500-meter dash of 3:56.40.
  • Freshman Tanay Parikh finished the mile with a new personal best time of 4:20.20, crossing the line in third. Classmate Jack Flori finished in sixteenth place with a 4:25.77.
  • In the 100-meter dash, sophomore Devin Chang crossed the line in 11.077, finishing 22nd. Freshman Nathan Kougher finished in 11.34, placing him 54th.
  • Kougher and Chang later ran the 200-meter dash. Kougher ran 22.834 with Chang crossing in 23.06.
  • The 4x100-meter relay team of Kougher, de Oliveira, Chang, and Hiray finished second in their heat, and ninth overall with a time of 42.78.
  • The 4x400-meter relay team of Ocloo, Joyce, Hiray, and de Oliveira finished fourth overall with a time of 3:15.334 beating out Duquesne by 0.002 seconds. This puts the 4x400 third in CMU history, and their best performance since 2004. They are currently the eighth fastest nationally.

Top Performers at Westminster:

  • Junior Philip Ma won the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 56.03
  • Freshman Haoran Lin finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles finishing in 15.36.
  • Sophomore Jon Okorie ran a new personal best of 1:57.35, crossing the finish line in second.
  • Sophomore York Bourgeois was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, a new personal best.
  • Junior Nathan Massie also finished second in the 5,000-meter run, with a new personal best of 15:04.3 He was followed by teammates junior Adam Kollgaard in third with a 15:09.24, a personal best for him as well. Sophomore Oliver Moss finished in fourth in 15:13.41. Senior Thomas Damiani finished fifth in 15:32.06, beating out sixth place by half a second. This was Damiani's first race since the UAA outdoor conference championships a year prior.
  • Freshman Mohammad Ahmed threw a mark of 42.86 meters in discus, placing him second. Junior Sam Alligood placed third with a mark of 41.38 meters. Freshman Carter Klaus finished eighth with a mark of 37.98 meters. Senior Johnathan Crawshaw threw 34.85 meters placing him ninth.
  • Senior Victor Crawshaw threw 43.42 meters in hammer throw, placing him sixth, just behind was his brother Johnathan in seventh, throwing 42.82 meters. Alligood finished eighth with a mark of 41.58 meters. 
  • Sophomore Watson Feil finished 10th in javelin with a mark of 47.06 meters. 
  • Senior Morgan Johnson finished fifth in long jump with a mark of 6.44 meters. He later jumped 13.29 meters in triple jump to finish fourth. 
  • In the shot put, Johnathan finished second with a mark of 14.77 meters. Alligood finished fourth with 14.28 meters. Ahmed finished seventh in 13.36 meters.
