Tartans Win Four Events at Annual Invitational

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team hosted its annual Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Gesling Stadium. The field was comprised of Division I, II and III institutions with the Tartans winning four events.

Top Performances on the Track:

  • In his first collegiate 1,500-meter race, freshman Stefan Langridge ran it in 3:56.90 to win the event.
  • Sophomore Luke Freimanis broke his own school record in the 110-meter hurdles when he crossed with a time of 14.61 seconds and placed third. His previous school record was 14.70.
  • The 5,000-meter run had junior Matthew Short winning the race with a time of 14:34.93 while senior Ryan Podnar took third after crossing in 14:40.00.
  • Junior Mathew Yu ran a personal-best 10-93 seconds in the 100-meter dash to place third while sophomore Devin Chang placed ninth with a time of 11.12.
  • Langridge then ran 1:56.45 in the 800-meter race and took sixth.
  • Freshman Eric de Oliveira recorded a time of 48.97 in the 400-meter race and placed fifth. Senior Jeremy Ocloo and sophomore Ryan Joyce finished sixth and seventh as they crossed with times of 50.14 and 50.32, respectively.
  • Sophomore James Brewer took eighth in the 400-meter hurdles after crossing in 58.09.
  • The 200-meter dash was won by de Oliveira in a career-best time of 22.42 while Freimanis was fourth in 23.06 and freshman Nathan Kougher was fifth in 23.17.
  • Freshman Lysander Duffield placed third in the 3,000-meter run in 9:14.76.

Top Performances in the Field:

  • Senior Morgan Johnson won the long jump after landing in the pit at 6.53 meters.
  • Sophomore Ryan Handron took second in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 4.39 meters. Graduate student Casey Potrebic placed third with a mark of 4.24 meters.
  • Potrebic then tied a personal-best in the high jump when he cleared the bar at 1.80 meters.
  • Seniors Johnathan Crawshaw and Sam Alligood placed fifth and sixth in the shot put with throws of 14.78 meters and 14.77 meters, respectively.
  • Alligood placed eighth in the discus with a throw of 42.68 meters.
  • In the hammer throw, senior Victor Crawshaw tossed the element 44.14 meters to place sixth while Alligood placed 10th with a toss of 43.28 meters.
  • Junior Atai Tahasan finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 13.72 meters and sophomore Lucas Knappenberger was fifth with a career-best mark of 13.10 meters.
  • Sophomore Watson Feil hit a career mark in the javelin by throwing the element 50.29 meters and placed ninth.
