Many Successes at Boston and Susquehanna Highlighted by Short's School Record

(SUSQUEHANNA, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team had competitors at the Boston University David Henry Valentine Invite and at the Susquehanna Valentine Invite from Friday, February 13 to Saturday, February 14.

Top Track Performances

  • At Boston, junior Matthew Short finished the mile run in 4:06.71 to set a new school record and rank 13th in the nation. Senior Ryan Podnar finished the 5,000-meter run in a season-best time of 14:35.53.
  • At Susquehanna, freshman Jackson Flori finished the mile in 4:25.80 for second place, while junior Christian Brower was third in 4:28.58 and sophomore Veyd Patil was fourth in 4:28.59.
  • Freshman Eric de Oliveira took second in the 200-meter dash in a career-best 22.72 seconds.
  • Senior Kenji Tella placed second in the 3,000-meter run in a career-best 8:46.41 with junior Angelo Parrino taking third in 8:58.26. Junior Nathan Massie placed fifth in 9:02.46.
  • Sophomore Luke Freimanis placed third in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.46 seconds.
  • Freshman Aryan Hiray was third in the 400-meter run in 51.57.
  • Senior Saaketh Nandakumar and freshman Franklin Ritz placed fourth and fifth in the 800-meter run with times of 2:01.23 and 2:01.29.
  • The 4x400-meter relay team of Hiray, junior Philip Ma, sophomore Ryan Joyce, and de Oliveira closed the meet with a decisive victory in a time of 3:29.41, nearly two seconds faster than the second-place team.

Top Field Performances

  • The Tartans took the first three spots in the pole vault as sophomore Lucas Knappenberger, senior Christian Duckworth, and junior Solomon Glavach each cleared 4.45 meters.
  • Junior Atai Tahasan won the triple jump by leaping 13.91 meters.
  • Senior Morgan Johnson placed second in the long jump with a mark of 6.89 meters and placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.27 meters.
  • Freshman Alexander Moser was third in the long jump with a career-best mark of 6.84 meters and sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.12 meters.
  • Freimanis placed fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.78 meters.
  • Senior Johnathan Crawshaw had a mark of 14.58 meters in the shot put to place fourth while senior Sam Alligood hit a mark of 14.14 meters to place sixth.
