#24 Tartans End UAA Championship in Sixth Place

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The 24th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team played 32nd-ranked Washington University in St. Louis in the fifth-place match of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Sunday in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The Tartans dropped a hard fought 4-2 match and move to 10-10 overall while the Bears are now 13-8.

How it Happened:

  • The Bears took the point in doubles play with wins at first and second.
  • After WashU took a point at third singles, freshman Takeshi Koey made the score 2-1 with a 6-3, 6-3 win at five.
  • Freshman Alex Feies then knotted the score at 2-all with a three-set victory at the top spot by the scores of 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
  • WashU then took two three-set matches, the first at the two spot and then at the four spot, to seal the win for the Bears.
