#24 Tartans Open UAA Play With Setback to #27 NYU

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The 24th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team opened University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Friday at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida, with a 4-3 setback to 27th-ranked NYU. The Tartans move to 9-9 overall while the Violets are now 11-2.

How it Happened:

  • The Violets took the point in doubles play with wins at first and second.
  • NYU took the first two points of singles play with wins at two and four before Tartan freshman Takeshi Koey won 6-4, 6-1 at five to make the score 3-1.
  • Freshman Braden Chavez then won 7-5, 6-1 at six singles, making the score 3-2.
  • First and third singles both went into three sets with freshman Alex Feies winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to knot the match at 3-all.
  • At third singles, NYU won in the third set to seal the victory.

  • Carnegie Mellon will now play Rochester on Saturday in the consolation semifinals at 12:30 p.m.
