(TEMPE, Ariz.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team was honored for the 10th straight season and 17th time in the last 18 years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, five players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above during the last academic year and the Tartans achieved a cumulative average of 3.42 for the year.
In addition to the team honor, senior Yannick Bloem (Geneva, Switzerland/EPFL, Lausanne), junior Nicholas Calzolano (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central), sophomores Ray Boppana (Boxborough, Mass./Acton Boxborough Regional) and Joshua Pinckney (Atlanta, Ga./The Westminster Schools), and freshman Sam Gibson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley) were honored as ITA Scholar Athletes.
In order to be eligible to be an ITA Scholar Athlete, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have an academic year GPA of at least 3.50, and been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
