No. 11 Tartans Move to 4-1 with Win Against Saint Francis
(MONROEVILLE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team defeated Division I Saint Francis University, 6-1, on Saturday, February 13 to move its record to 4-1. The Red Flash fall to 5-2.
The Tartans swept doubles play with seniors Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) and Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) winning first in the third slot, 6-4. The freshman combo of Vayum Arora (Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose) and Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill./Boca Prep International School) combined at first doubles to win 7-6 (7-2) while sophomore Jeffrey Chen (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and junior Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) won, 6-3, at second doubles.
Levine was the first to finish singles play, winning 6-1, 7-5 in the second position. Junior Kunal Wadwani (Saratoga, Calif./Ballarmine College Prep) gave the Tartans a 3-0 advantage with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) win at fifth singles before Zheng clinched the match at third singles with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3) victory against Jan Vit Suntar.
The final two points for the Tartans came from Arora at fourth singles, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, and sophomore Tommy Cheng (Cupertino, Calif./Cupertino) at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-3.
The Tartans will continue action on Sunday, February 14 at Division I Youngstown State University. The match is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m.
