Four Tartans Earn First Team All-UAA Honors
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Four members of the Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team earned a place on the first team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) sqaud following the 2012 UAA Championship which was played last weekend. Juniors Duke Miller (Poway, Calif./Poway) and Joohu Yu (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) along with first years Will Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) and Thomas Cooper (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) were selected to the team by the Association's coaches.
Miller and Duncan took the honors at first doubles following a 2-1 performance over the tournament. The No. 1 ranked pair in the Atlantic South Region defeated teams from Washington University and Case Western Reserve University. Their loss could have easily been a win but the pair fell in a tiebreaker 9-8 (7-3) to New York University in the team's opening match.
Yu and Cooper paired at second doubles to earn the first team award. Playing alongside each other for the first time in a month, Yu and Cooper won all three of their matches by scores of 8-4, 8-4 and 8-6.
Miller earned his second All-UAA honor in as many years as he was a second-team honoree last year at second doubles.
