Tartans Tie Home Opener with Grove City, 1-1

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team hosted Grove City College for the first home game of the season on Wednesday, September 3. The Tartans tied against Grove City 1-1, leading them to a 1-0-2 record for the season while the Wolverines move to 0-1-1.

Inside the Box Score

  • After an intense first period, Grove City scored the first goal in the 32nd minute of the game off a near post strike from Evan Yoder.
  • Junior Nicholas Kourakis answered back for the Tartans in the 42nd minute of the game. He was assisted by freshman Mateas Fitzwilliam who sent a pass over the midfield through the center of the field for Kourakis to run onto and hit one-time from just outside the box.
  • The rest of the game was quiet, scoring wise, ending one all.
  • The Tartans tallied 13 shots with seven being on goal.
  • Sophomore James Ashby and freshman Idan Garten led offensively for the team with three shots, and each having one on goal.
