Yamamoto Named UAA Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Kai Yamamoto was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week following his performance in the team's 1-0 victory against Emory University over the weekend. The award is the first for the Tartans this season.
Yamamoto earned his first career UAA victory on Saturday with a shutout at home against the Eagles. Yamamoto, who has started all three UAA contests this year, made eight saves in the match, including five in the first half, to stave off the conference leader and give them their first loss of the UAA season. Five of Yamamoto's saves also came against the leading shot taker in the UAA in Ryan Winkler, who has seven goals for the season but was denied by Yamamoto, including on back-to-back shots in the 36th minute and a leaping push save in the 58th minute on a shot headed for the top left corner.
The Tartans hit the road for their next contest and will face Washington University in St. Louis on Friday, October 25 at 6:00 p.m. CT.
