McGinnis IV Named Centennial Offensive Player of the Week, Nick McCullough Honored by D3football.com
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior quarterback Joey McGinnis IV was named Centennial Conference (CC) Offensive Player of the Week while freshman Nick McCullough was recognized nationally on the D3football.com Team of the Week for their play in the now 17th-ranked Tartans' 20-0 win at the University of Chicago to open the season on Saturday, September 6.
McGinnis, who made his first collegiate start on Saturday, completed 28-of-36 passes for a career-high 243 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 38 yards on the ground.
McCullough was recognized as the special team honoree. In his first collegiate contest, McCullough recorded a blocked punt that set up the Tartans' final points of the game, a 38-yard field goal. He also recorded a deflection on another punt which went 18 yards. In addition to his play on special teams, McCullough led the Cardinal Gray with eight receptions for 75 yards.
Carnegie Mellon will open its home slate on Saturday, September 13 with a 12:00 p.m. kick against ninth-ranked UW-La Crosse.
