Football Lands 18 on All-PAC Team

(GREENVILLE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University football team had 18 members earn All-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) distinction, announced by the conference office following voting by the league coaches on Tuesday. The Tartans place two on the first team and three on the second team while 12 were tabbed honorable mention with one named to the sportsmanship team.

Repeating as a first team selection is junior returner Willie Richter (Leander, Texas/Cedar Park). Joining the return specialist on the top team is senior H-back Karl Kumm (Brick, N.J./Brick Township), a second team honoree a year ago. Senior offensive lineman Damola Orimolade (Potomac, Md./Bullis School), junior defensive back Anthony Kennon (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Regional) and freshman placekicker Brandon Nguyen (Maitland, Fla./Lake Highland Preparatory) were named to the second team.

Kumm finished the season as the Tartans leading receiver with 638 yards, seven touchdowns and 49 receptions. He recorded three 100-yard receiving contests with a career-best 115 yards in the season finale against Geneva. In the win, Kumm also posted career-bests with 11 receptions and two touchdowns. He ranked fifth in the PAC in receptions per game (4.9) and seventh in receiving yards per game (63.8) while ranking 10th in scoring with 42 points.

Richter averaged 11.6 yards per punt return, which ranked second in the conference and 22nd nationally. He finished the season with a combined 515 return yards. The junior also was second on the team with 35 receptions for 512 yards and two touchdowns.

Orimolade, a two-year starter, started all 10 games this season and headed a front that ranked second in the PAC in sacks allowed with 17, finishing one behind the top spot. The senior also played a huge factor in helping the offense reach the 503-yard mark at Washington & Jefferson while also compiling 450 yards in an overtime win at nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University. In all, the Tartans offense recorded five games of 400 yards of total offense.

Kennon, an honorable mention selection a year ago, led the PAC with 16 passes defended and ranked fourth with four interceptions. Two of his picks came in the Tartans' victory at nationally ranked Case Western Reserve with the last coming in the end zone during overtime. Kennon finished the season with 38 tackles, 26 solo, ranking fourth on the team in solo stops and seventh in total tackles.

Nguyen ended his first year as the team's leading scorer with 54 points, which ranked eighth best in the PAC. The placekicker converted 33-of-35 point-after-attempts and was 7-of-11 on field goals with a long of 45 yards coming in the Tartans' overtime win at Case Western Reserve.
