Tummala and Giang Named Volleyball Athletes of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University swept the University Athletic Association (UAA) Volleyball Athlete of the Week awards with junior Neha Tummala taking the defensive award and classmate Kate Giang taking the offensive award after a pair of five-set victories for the Tartans on Saturday.

The Tartans defeated Muskingum followed with a victory over 18th-ranked Marietta College on its home court. Tummala and Giang recorded a double-double in both contests.

Against Muskingum, Tummala recorded 49 assists and 12 digs while tallying four service aces. In the Tartans win over Marietta, she recorded 28 assists and 13 digs. Her four aces against Muskingum give her 150 for her career.

Giang recorded 19 kills and 17 digs while tallying three service aces in the win over Muskingum. Against Marietta, she recorded 10 kills, 16 digs and five aces.

The Tartans will host Point Park University in an exhibition contest on October 21 with the game starting at 6:00 p.m.
