Tartans Open Season with 3-1 Win in Gettysburg

(GETTYSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team traveled to Gettysburg College for the Battlefield Classic to open the 2025 season. The Tartans won 3-1 against the host school on Friday, August 29.

• After losing the first set 26-24, the Tartans came back and won with set scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 25-20.
• The Tartans hit .167 and the Bullets hit .134.
• Senior Elizabeth Schlemmer, senior Kai Herchenroether, and senior Julianna McFarland led the Tartans' offense with 14, 13, and 11 kills, respectively.
• Herchenroether also led the team with five blocks. unior Neha Tummala had five of team's 12 aces and 26 of the team's 46 assists.
• Freshman Melissa Jin had 16 assists while junior transfer Kate Giang had 10 kills in their Tartan debuts.
• Junior Zoe Gavros and Tummala each had 16 digs and Schlemmer had nine.
• Gettysburg was led by two players with double digits kills.
