Tartans Begin Indoor Season at Youngstown, Bucknell, and Mount Union
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's indoor track and field team opened its 2025-2026 season competing at three different meets over the weekend. One athlete traveled to Bucknell University for the Bison Open while the rest of the team split into two meets, the YSU Icebreaker in Youngstown Ohio, and the University of Mount Union for the Toy Drive Invite.
Top Performances at YSU
- Senior Zoe King placed ninth in the long jump, jumping 5.48 meters. King was also the top Tartan to finish in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dash, running 8.47 in the 60-meter dash and a 27.97 in the 200.
- In the 5000-meter run, juniors Kara Mathias and Alaina Patel finished 15th and 18th, respectively, with a time of 18:41.77 and 19:14.97. Mathias achieved a personal record with her 18:41.77.
- Sophomore Ava Barnes was fourth in the pole vault unseeded, vaulting 3.55 meters.
Top Performances at Bucknell
- Sophomore Alin Aydogan competed in the pentathlon, placing fourth out of 13 athletes comprised of Division I, II, and III institutions with 2,965 points.
- Aydogan was second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.53. She was fourth in the shot put with a mark of 9.36 meters and fifth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.49 meters. Her distance of 5.05 meters in the long jump was third while her 800-meter run time of 2:47.33 was 10th.
Top Performances at Mount Union
- Freshman Sophia Riche won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.31 in her first ever collegiate race making her fourth all-time in program history. Not far behind her was senior Iniyaa Mohanraj with a time of 9.96 in fourth and freshman Isabella Garlick in sixth with a time of 10.48.
- In her collegiate debut, freshman Eva Adam ran a 2:31.14 to get second place in the 800-meter run.
- In weight throw, freshman Violet McCullough threw 11.58 meters to place 15th with junior Sara Christie just behind in 16th throwing 11.39 meters. Sophomore Jessica Thiss was 18th throwing 11.19 meters.
- In the women's shot put, Christie threw 10.49 meters to place 10th.
- Mohanraj, Riche and sophomore Catalina Howells went second, third and fourth, respectively, jumping 10.54 meters, 10.53 meters and 10.02 meters in the triple jump.
- Mohanraj was second in the long jump with a mark of 5.15 meters. Riche was seventh, jumping 4.8 meters, and freshman Adrienne Warren was eighth with a mark of 4.72 meters.
- Howells was fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.52 meters, Garlick was seventh clearing the bar at 1.47 meters and Warren was tenth with a height of 1.47 meters.
