Guevel Sets Two School Records at Bucknell Winter Classic
(LEWISBURG, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team traveled to Eastern PA for the Bucknell Winter Classic at Bucknell University on Saturday, February 11. The team recorded several season-best marks and times in the unscored meet.
Senior Ivana Moses (New Rochelle, N.Y./Phillips Exeter) placed sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.55 meters and eighth in the long jump with a season-best distance of 5.12 meteres.
Sophomores Samantha Oleson (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and Jane Kim (Clifton, Va./Centreville) recorded season bests in the weight throw as Oleson was eighth with a mark of 11.80 meters and Kim was 11th with a mark of 10.78 meters.
Sophomore Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Harker School) raced to a second-place finish in both the 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dash setting school records in both with times of 8.85 seconds and 7.92 seconds, respectively. She currently ranks first in the University Athletic Association in both events. Moses set a season-best time in the 60-meter dash during the preliminaries when she finished in 8.23 seconds.
Freshman Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) placed seventh in the mile run with a season-best time of 5:15.47 while fellow freshman Halley Bayer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) was 14th in 5:28.46. Bayer also ran the 800-meter run during the day finishing 27th in 2:34.40. Both of Bayer's times were season-bests.
Freshman Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) ran to an 11th-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 27.01.
The 4x400 meter relay team of freshman Stephanie Chen (Vancouver, B.C./Crofton House School), Spalding, Kiekhaefer and Guevel closed the meet with a seventh-place finish in a time of 4:11.08.
The team will be in action again next weekend when they perform at Kent State University as a tune-up for the University Athletic Association Championships on February 24-26 in New York, N.Y.
