Modak Named UAA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
(PITTSBURGH Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Kotistha Modak was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for her performance over the weekend in helping the eighth-ranked Tartans advance to the quarterfinals of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship for the eighth time in school history and the first time since 2023.
The Tartans won a thrilling 4-3 come-from-behind victory over fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Sunday afternoon in Baltimore, Maryland. Modak went 2-2 overall for the weekend with both of her victories coming at three singles, including the clinching point in the Tartans win over Johns Hopkins. In the match, she overcame a first-set loss (7-5) to win the second set 6-2 and then the third set 7-5. Her other win was a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Katie Wong of Case Western Reserve.
The Tartans will travel to the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for the quarterfinals on Sunday, May 18. They will face University Athletic Association rival Washington University in St. Louis. The match is set for 11:00 a.m. The Bears ranked third nationally, previously defeated Carnegie Mellon at the end of March.
