No. 13 Tartans Defeat Kenyon For Second Straight Victory
(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The 13th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team travled to Kenyon College for its second match in three days and left with a 7-2 win against the Ladies. The win moves the Tartans' record to 10-6 on the season as they hold a two-match win streak.
The Tartans swept doubles action to take a 3-0 lead as the No. 2 pair of sophomore Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) and freshman Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) won 8-0 to start the match. Senior Alex Tapak (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and sophomore Lydia Utkin (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) then won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles with junior Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) and sophomore Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) earning the third point at No. 1 doubles with an 8-6 win.
Tsu was the first to finish singles play when she won 6-1, 6-3 over Amanda Polster at No. 3 singles. The Tartans fifth point came from Utkin as she won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.
Also winning on the day was Rashcke at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-4 over Samantha Murphy and freshman Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) at No. 4 singles, 7-5, 7-5.
The Tartans next action will be at the University Athletic Association Championships which begin on Thursday, April 25 in Orlando, Florida.
