Tartans Top DII Indiana University of Pa. 8-1
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team topped Division II Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Sunday, February 17, 8-1. The #5 Tartans are now 3-1 on the season.
The Tartans swept doubles play as junior Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) and sophomore Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) won first at No. 1 doubles, 8-3. Following their win was sophomore tandem Chelsea Motie (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) and Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles before freshmen Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) and Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Pratt was the first to finish singles play as she won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Hamstra then sealed the win with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.
Also winning for the Tartans was Motie at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2, Cecil in the No. 1 slot, 7-5, 6-4 and sophomore Lydia Utkin (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) at the No. 6 position, 4-6, 6-4, 11-9.
The Tartans will next compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Women's Team Indoor Championship as they face #16 Skidmore College at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1.
