Xu National Runner-Up While Tartans Place 18th at NCAA Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team closed the 2026 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in 18th place with 51 points on Saturday, March 21, at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Top Performances

  • Senior Savannah Xu completed her career with a national runner-up finish in the 200-yard backstroke by touching the wall in 1:59.19. Her preliminaries time of 1:58.38 topped her school record set in 2024 by nearly one second.
  • Freshman Audrey Gil closed her first NCAA Championships in the 100-yard freestyle by placing 54th in 52.34 seconds.
  • Freshman Victoria Sun also completed her first NCAA Championships with a 27th-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:21.44.
  • Senior Sophie Elliott finished her career with a time of 2:07.78 in the 200-yard backstroke.
  • The 400-yard freestyle relay of senior Audrey Soetanto, Gil, Sun, and junior Anna Zaniolo finished 26th in 3:32.80.

All-America (1st-8th):

  • Xu - second in the 200-yard backstroke, eighth in the 200-yard IM
  • Gil - third in the 100-yard butterfly

All-America Second Team (9th-16th):

  • Xu - 16th in the 100-yard backstroke
  • 400-yard medley relay (14th) - Xu, Sun, Gil, Zaniolo
