Xu Wins 200 Back Title at UAA Championships; Tartans Place Fifth

(CHICAGO, Ill.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team placed fifth at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Swimming and Diving Championships after the four-day meet concluded on Saturday, February 14 at the University of Chicago.

Top Performances

• Sophomore Alexandra Scharpf finished the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:36.24 to finish ninth. Junior Catrina Raich was 17th in the event in a time of 18:18.85.
• Senior Savannah Xu won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.60. It was her first UAA Championship in the event and fourth title of her career.
• Freshman Audrey Gil led three Tartans in the C Final of the 100-yard freestyle with a winning heat time of 51.70.
• Freshman Victoria Sun touched second in the B Final of the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.01. Junior Elizabeth Shaffer touched fifth in the heat in 2:22.25.
• Three Tartans made the championship final of the 200-yard butterfly. Sophomore Natalia Evans-Gibson placed fifth in 2:05.94, senior Sophie Elliott placed sixth in 2:06.19, and Scharpf was eighth in 2:08.12.
• The 400-yard freestyle relay of Gil, freshman Alefiya Dhansura, Sun, and junior Anna Zaniolo hit an NCAA qualifying time of 3:28.61 and placed sixth to close the meet.
