Tartans Host Western PA Invitational

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team competed at the two-day Western Pennsylvanian Invitational on Friday, January 23 and Saturday, January 24 while celebrating the seniors at home.

Top Performances

  • Sophomore Alexandra Scharpf had four top-three finishes, touching first in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:41.89, second in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:07.57, third in the 200-yard IM in 2:10.15, and third in the 400-yard IM in 4:39.63. Her times in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 200-yard IM are season bests.
  • Senior Savannah Xu was a triple winner for the meet, taking first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.22, the 100-yard butterfly in 57.07, and the 50-yard freestyle in 24.46.
  • Freshman Chloe Mihaly took first place with a time of 1:55.43 in the 200-yard freestyle and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:11.11. She was also third in the 100-yard freestyle in 52.82.
  • Freshman Madison Assanah won the 100-yard backstroke in 57.80 and placed third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:08.50.
  • Sophomore Olivia Giuffre placed second in the 100-yard backstroke in 59.08.
  • Sophomore Yuchen Zhou was third in the 100-yard backstroke in 59.09 and fourth in 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.14.
  • Following Xu in the 100-yard butterfly was freshman Natalie Sierzanowski in second in 58.15 and junior Catrina Raich in third in 58.57. Senior Izzy Miller was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.92.
  • Senior Sophie Elliott finished the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:58.66 to place second.
