Tartans Defeat Case Western
(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team traveled to compete against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, November 1. The Tartans came out on top with a final score of 184-116.
Inside the Results
- The 'A' team of senior Savannah Xu, senior Audrey Lambert, freshman Audrey Gil, and junior Anna Zaniolo took the top of the podium in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:48.89.
- Freshman Victoria Sun won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:50.30. Freshman Katelyn Smittle was runner-up with a time of 10:59.69.
- Sun also won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.42. Junior Elizabeth Shaffer and Doan were second and third in this race with times of 2:28.22 and 2:29.60, respectively.
- Senior Sophie Elliott won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:16.53. Elliott also swam the 200-yard freestyle in 1:57.97, earning her second place.
- Xu and Zhou placed first and second in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 56.49 and 59.11, respectively.
- Xu and Zhou were also both on the 200-yard backstroke podium. Xu finished first place with a time of 2:03.28 and Zhou was third with a time of 2:09.22.
- Xu earned her third individual win of the meet in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:06.77. Senior Audrey Soetanto and sophomore Alexandra Scharpf were second and third in this race with times of 2:13.25 and 2:16.23, respectively.
- The Tartans swept the top three in the 100-yard backstroke. Doan won with a time of 1:08.44, senior Esther Lin was second in 1:08.80, and Shaffer was third in 1:09.02.
- Soetanto won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.03. Scharpf placed third with a time of 2:12.46.
- Gil came out on top in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.26. Gil also completed the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.03, earning second place.
- Soetanto and Zaniolo were second and third in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 54.05 and 54.65, respectively.
- The Tartan's 'A' team of Gil, Muncy, Zaniolo, and senior Grace Malinger took second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.80.
- Freshman Clarissa Co was first on the 3-meter diving board with 254.00 points while junior Cat Bryan was second with 239.55 points. Co placed second on the 1-meter board with 211.35 points with Bryan taking fourth with 168.45 points.

The Tartans will host Gettysburg College on Saturday, November 8. Competition will begin at 1:00 p.m.
