Tartans Win 12 of 14 Events Against Washington & Lee

(LEXINGTON, Va.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming team competed at Washington and Lee University on Saturday, October 18. The Tartans took first place with 178.5 points against 83.5 for the Generals, sweeping three events.

Inside the Results

  • The Tartans started the meet with a first-place showing in the 200-yard medley relay with sophomore Olivia Giuffre, senior Audrey Lambert, senior Savannah Xu, and freshman Audrey Gil finishing in 1:47.87.
  • Sophomore Alexandra Scharpf took third place in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:07.83.
  • Freshman Victoria Sun took first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.20 and freshman Chloe Mihaly took second with a time of 1:59.93.
  • Xu and Giuffre took first and second in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 56.84 and 57.60.
  • The Tartans swept the 100-yard breaststroke with junior Elizabeth Shaffer taking first with a time of 1:08.17, freshman Tran Doan taking second in 1:08.27, and Lambert taking third with a time of 1:08.32.
  • Senior Audrey Soetanto took first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.76 and sophomore Natalia Evans-Gibson took third with a time of 2:11.34.
  • Gil was first to finish the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.59.
  • The Tartans also swept the 100-yard freestyle with Soetanto, junior Anna Zaniolo, and Mihaly taking first, second and third, with times of 54.95, 54.98, and 55.19.
  • Xu took first place with a time of 2:03.29 in the 200-yard backstroke. Freshman Lili Trinh took third with a time of 2:10.39.
  • The Tartans then swept the 200-yard breaststroke with Shaffer taking first place with a time of 2:25.68. Sun was second with a time of 2:28.70 and sophomore Allie Kim took third with a time of 2:29.70.
  • Senior Sophie Elliott took second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:21.14.
  • Gil took first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.24 while Evans-Gibson was third in 59.45.
  • Xu won her third event of the day when she touched first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:09.09. Trinh was third in 2:14.90.
  • The Tartans closed the meet with a first-place showing in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Gil, Zaniolo, Giuffre, and senior Grace Malinger finishing in a time of 1:39.25.
