Tartans Place Third at Total Performance Invitational

(GAMBIER, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming team competed in the third and final day of competition of the Total Performance Invitational at Kenyon College on Saturday, November 23. The Tartans finished in third place out of eight teams with 1,065 points.

Top Performances

  • Freshman Alexandra Scharpf finished the 1,650-yard freetstyle in 17:46.46 to take 10th place.
  • Freshman Yuchen Zhou swam the 200-yard backstroke in 2:08.23 to place fourth in the B Final.
  • Junior Eliana Szabo was fifth in the B Final of the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.21.
  • Sophomore Elizabeth Shaffer finished the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:21.49 to place sixth after touching in 2:20.95 in the preliminaries.
  • Scharpf also swam in the 200-yard breaststroke final and finished 10th in 2:31.32 with a best time of 2:25.21 recorded in the preliminaries.
  • Junior Audrey Soetanto paced the Tartans in the 200-yard butterfly with a third-place finish in 2:03.87. Junior Sophie Elliott was seventh in 2:04.92 and freshman Natalia Evans-Gibson was 10th in 2:06.08.

The Tartans break from competition until after the New Year when they travel to Denison University in Granville, Ohio, for competition beginning on Saturday, January 11 at 1:00 p.m.
