Tartans Beat Washington and Lee in Home Meet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming team hosted Washington and Lee University on Saturday, October 19. The Tartans beat the Generals 191 to 71. The diving team traveled to the Kenyon Diving Invitational, competing six dives on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards.

Top Performances

  • Sophomore Cat Bryan placed first on the 1m with a score of 280.60 and third in a field of 12 divers on 3m with a score of 255.10.
  • Freshman Yuchen Zhou, junior Yitian Zhang, freshman Lizzy Rosenberg, and freshman Janna Lu placed first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.48.
  • Freshman Alexandra Scharpf finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:52.82.
  • Junior Sophie Elliott finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.80. Junior Eliana Szabo finished second with a time of 1:58.27. 
  • Freshman Olivia Giuffre placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.75. Zhou placed second with a time of 59.77. 
  • Lambert placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.27. Sophomore Elizabeth Shaffer placed second in 1:08.38. Senior Emma Kulbida placed third in 1:08.46.
  • Junior Audrey Soetanto placed first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.53. 
  • Malinger placed second in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.18. Lu placed third in 25.31. 
  • Szabo placed second in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.89. Lu placed third in 54.44. 
  • Zhou placed first in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.02. 
  • Shaffer placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:25.91. Zhang placed second in 2:28.48. Scharpf placed third in 2:29.90.
  • Elliott placed first in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:15.48. Freshman Nani Sanna placed second in 5:18.33.
  • Soetanto placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.45. Lambert placed second in 58.87.
  • Soetanto placed first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:11.94. Scharpf placed second in 2:13.78. Freshman Allie Kim placed third in 2:13.95.
  • Malinger, Zhang, Zhou, and Szabo placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.11.
