Tartan Women Sweep Home Quad Meet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team won all three individual dual meets during its annual home quad meet with Allegheny College, University of Rochester and Washington & Lee University. The Tartans topped the Gators 168-84, the Yellowjackets 149-108 and the Generals 163-194.

The Tartans opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay behind a time of 1:50.42 from freshman Kira Singhaus (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), junior Tatiana Duchak (Centreville, Va./Mercersburg Academy), freshman Shieri Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) and junior Soleil Phan (Irvine, Calif./Beckman).

Earning victories on the day were sophomore Kaeli Halbersleben (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:59.00), Phan in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.96) and 500-yard freestyle (5:09.72), Singhaus in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.15 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:12.29 and freshman Felicia Wang (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.15) and 200-yard breaststroke in 2:30.65.

Freshman Elizabeth Chang (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:06.35 while sophomore Kelley Sheehan (Poway, Calif./Poway) was third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.06. Duchak later touched second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.60.

Junior Megan Garvey (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) finished second in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:11.60 as sophomore Wendy Liu (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) was third in 2:15.73. Suzuka took second in three events, the 50-yard freestyle in 25.15, the 100-yard freestyle in 54.73 and the 100-yard butterfly in 58.62.

The Tartans will be off for a week before traveling to Kenyon College for the three-day Total Performance Invitational beginning on Thursday, November 29.
