Tartans Open Home Season Against Clarion

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving opened its home season with a dual meet against Division II Clarion University. The Tartans won two events and finished second in seven individual events falling in the meet by the score of 198-102.

Sophomore Kelley Sheehan (Poway, Calif./Poway) finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:01.10 while sophomore Kaeli Halbersleben (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) was third in 11:02.31.

Junior Soleil Phan (Irvine, Calif./Beckman) won the 100-yard butterfly in 58.99 and took second in the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 1:55.60 and 200-yard IM in 2:12.62. Freshman Kira Singhaus (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) was second in the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best 1:00.14 and freshman Corrine Bacigal (Campbell Hall, N.Y./Washingtonville) was third in 1:03.50.

Another second-place finish came in the 100-yard breaststroke as freshman Felicia Wang (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley) touched the wall in 1:08.47, just .03 behind the winner from Clarion. Wang also touched second in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:32.53.

Junior Megan Garvey (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:21.06 and earned a second-place finish as she touched in a season-best 2:11.92 in the 200-yard butterfly.

The Tartans picked up third-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle from freshman Hannah Hoffert (Midlothian, Va./James River) in 55.88 and Singhaus in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:14.23.

In diving, freshman Winona Li (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) was fifth on the 1-meter board with 170.18 points as freshman Andie Azofeifa (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) was sixth with 162.83 points. Li was also fifth on the 3-meter board with 152.85 points as freshman Alicia Iott (Roanoke, Va./Roanoke Catholic) was sixth with 115.58 points.

The Tartans will be in action again on Saturday, November 10 at 1:00 p.m. when they host Grove City College.
