Matisi Named CMU Women's Basketball Assistant Coach

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Mike Matisi has been announced by Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball head coach Kathy McConnell-Miller as the full-time assistant coach for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

Matisi moves to Pittsburgh after serving three years as the assistant women's basketball coach at Susquehanna University. In three seasons with the River Hawks, Matisi helped lead the program to a 38-16 record in conference play while achieving program records in wins and Landmark playoff appearances, while receiving votes in the D3hoops.com national poll for eight straight weeks during the 2025-26 season.

Prior to his coaching role at Susquehanna, Matisi was the varsity boys basketball head coach at Southeast High School in Ravenna, Ohio, for five seasons after spending two seasons as a freshman head coach at Lowellville High School and two seasons as the junior varsity head coach at South Range High School.

"Mike brings tremendous passion for developing student-athletes, a strong educational background, and a competitive drive that aligns perfectly with our program's goals," said McConnell-Miller. "He played an instrumental role in the Susquehanna's turnaround and success the past three seasons and his experience helping build a winning culture will be a tremendous asset to our student-athletes and our program."

Matisi was a three-year member of the Westminster College men's basketball team and a four-year men's tennis player for the Titans. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in elementary and special education and went on to teach fourth grade at Southeast Intermediate for eight years. He also earned his master's degree in educational administration from Youngstown State University.

Matisi's first day as a Tartan will be July 1, 2026.
