Baney Named UAA Rookie of the Year; Or and Chintala Also Honored
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Freshman Payton Baney and seniors Catherine Or and Anisha Chintala earned University Athletic Association (UAA) end of year honors when the coaches selected them to the 2024-25 UAA Women's All-Association Basketball Team. Baney was recognized as the UAA Rookie of the Year while Or repeated as a first-team honoree with Chintala receiving second-team recognition.
Baney was a major contributor to our overall success of the Tartans who finished second in the UAA with a 10-4 record. Baney averaged 24 minutes, 7.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.1 blocks per game, while shooting 61% from the field in UAA play. One of her top performing games was a 9-for-9 shooting effort at home against Emory University as she helped lead the Tartans to a 78-66 overtime victory.
Or, is now a four-time UAA honoree and three-time first-team selection. She led the Tartans in scoring with 18.7 points per game in league play while shooting 46.1% from the floor and 46.3% from three. She also led the team in rebounding with 6.1 boards a game and assists with 4.2 per game. Or scored a season-high 27 points at Case Western Reserve University to open the UAA season and matched it at Brandeis University when the Tartans secured second place in the UAA with a 62-51 victory.
Chintala earned her first UAA honor after averaging 9.1 points per UAA game with 2.0 steals, which was third best in the league. The senior guard scored 21 points at home against Rochester and 17 versus WashU to help the Tartans sweep the season series with both schools. She also recorded a season-best six steals against Rochester.
The Tartans continue their season in the NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 7 at 4:45 p.m. against Bridgewater State University at Johns Hopkins University. It is the fourth tournament appearance for the program and first since 2015-16.
