Tartans Win 10th UAA Game of Season, Top CWRU 70-46

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team finished the regular season with a 70-46 victory against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, March 1 at home. The Tartans are now 20-5 overall and 10-4 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), placing second in the league with their most wins since 1992. The Spartans end the year at 7-18, 2-12.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans had an early 3-0 lead before CWRU led 13-7 with 3:49 to go in the first quarter.
  • The Tartans answered with a 6-0 run to end the frame with a tie score.
  • The run continued for the Tartans to start the second quarter with a 7-0 spurt the closed on a triple by senior Anisha Chintala.
  • After a three-pointer by Nyah Moore, the Tartans scored another nine straight and then led by 15 when a 13-2 run ended on sophomore Allie Heyer's second layup and seventh point of the blitz.
  • The Tartans would lead by 11 points at halftime.
  • Neither team was hot in the third quarter and the game remained with an 11-point Tartan lead heading into the final frame.
  • Junior Ava Arias was the leading scorer for the Tartans in the fourth quarter as she scored seven of the team's 24 points while the team shot 57.1% from the floor.
  • Senior Catherine Or had four of her game-high seven assists in the final quarter.
