Murphy Earns Fourth UAA and Second ECAC Athlete of the Week Accolade
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week and Corvias Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Athlete of the Week following her performance in the Tartans' 1-1 mark over the weekend. It marks Murphy's fourth honor this season.
Murphy recorded back-to-back double-doubles and now has 12 on the season. She started the weekend recording 20 rebounds, four blocks and scoring 16 points. The sophomore followed Friday's performance by pouring in a game-high 29 points in the Tartans' 85-74 victory over Emory. She also grabbed 11 rebounds and recorded two blocks to become Carnegie Mellon's single-season record holder for blocks. She currently has 67 on the season. For the week, Murphy averaged 22.5 points, 15.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks while shooting 59.3% from the floor.
Murphy has now scored in double figures in 27 straight contests and in 47-of-459 career games. She leads the nation in field-goal percentage, shooting 66.3% from the floor.
The Tartans will next face Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday, February 28, in the regular season finale.
