Peel Repeats as All-UAA First Team Selection; Otto Honored on Second Team
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Senior Emily Peel (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and freshman Liza Otto (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) were honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) coaches with selections to the All-UAA team announced Wednesday, February 27. Peel is a repeat member on the first team while Otto becomes the first Tartan freshman to make the second team since the 2008-09 season.
Peel finished the 2013 regular-season campaign averaging 13.9 points and 8.2 rebounds a game, compiling seven double-doubles. The senior also posted 30 blocks for an average of 1.2 a game to lead the team in all four categories. Peel closed the regular season with a national ranking of eight in field-goal percentage, shooting the rock at a 56.6% clip. With the first-team selection, Peel becomes the fourth Tartan to earn two or more UAA first-team honors.
Otto was third on the team in scoring with 10.3 points per game and second on the team in rebounding with 8.0 boards a game, while she recorded five double-doubles. The freshman led the team in assists with 72 which averaged out to 2.9 a game and grabbed double-digit rebounds on nine occasions which also led the team.
The team continues play, Wednesday, February 27 at 5:30 p.m. when they face Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., in the ECAC South Tournament. The ECAC tournament bid is the first post-season appearance for the program since the 1999-2000 season when the Tartans defeated Grove City College for the ECAC South Championship.
